FAQs

Jack Talks: Booking a Talk

  • What can I expect with the Virtual Jack Talk?
In short: engaging, evidence-based mental health education in a digital format!

The Virtual Jack Talk: Classroom Edition uses video, interactive quizzes, discussion guides, and a virtual learning management platform. One of our Programs Coordinators will make sure you have everything you need to get the most out of the experience, and walk you through the implementation. Trust us, we make it super easy and user-friendly.

The Virtual Jack Talk: Personal Edition can be done on your own time. It walks you through videos and quizzes and can be completed in about 45 minutes.

And don't forget: the Virtual Jack Talk was informed and co-created with youth in Jack.org's network, so you know it's relevant and engaging for young people!
  • Is the Jack Talk safe?

Yes! We do intensive evaluations to ensure our programs are implemented in a safe and effective manner. Mental health can sometimes be a particularly sensitive subject for some people, which is why it's mandatory that every Virtual Jack Talk: Classroom Edition has some sort of mental health support present.
  • How much does it cost?

The Virtual Jack Talk is 100% free!

The in-person Jack Talk (currently suspended): The in-person talk is made available to all youth-centric organizations/communities/schools, regardless of your budget! If you cannot afford a speaker fee, our bursary program will cover the cost. If you can, our suggested fee is $1,000 for the first talk and $200 for each additional talk. If you can only afford a part of the fee, no worries. Either way, we’ll work with you to bring these important presentations to young people.

  • What speakers do you have?

    These fierce young people.

The Virtual Jack Talk is delivered by Sadia (get to know her here!) and Jonathan Andrews (meet Jonathan!).
  • What dates are available?

For both the Virtual Jack Talk and in-person Jack Talk: Name your date. We work to deliver Jack Talks 365 days a year.

The Virtual Jack Talk: Personal Edition can be done at any time, by anyone!
  • How far in advance do I have to book?

For both the Virtual Jack Talk and in-person Jack Talk: We recommend you reach out to us at least 60 days in advance, but no matter what we'll work to make it happen. Connect with us as soon as possible so we can discuss options.

The Virtual Jack Talk: Personal Edition can be done at any time, by anyone!
  • Our community faced a traumatic event - can you please come and talk to our students?
Following a community tragedy, it’s not in line with best practices to have a large group assembly like our Jack Talk. Because of this, we don’t recommend booking talks during these difficult community times. However, we’re more than happy to work with you to host a talk for a later date when it will be a more positive and safe experience for everyone. If you have questions about the timing or safety considerations of your event, reach out to us at talks@jack.org and we’d be happy to discuss options.
  • What kind of training do Jack Talks Speakers get?

Rigorous training in mental health, public speaking, and more, with one-on-one coaching with our professional staff. We’ve published some of our training materials in our Resources section. Have a look!
