Youth mental health In Canada
Young people in Canada are in a state of crisis. And too many are struggling alone. We’re taking action to change that.
Young people today experience a set of challenges unlike any generation before them. They are grappling with the repercussions of the global pandemic, navigating an increasingly online world, and contending with an affordability crisis that denies them the assurance of security.
For over a decade, youth mental distress has been on the rise. Increases in hospitalizations for self-harm, mood disorders, and poor mental health have become the norm. And most young people still lack the mental health literacy and community support to reach out for help before it reaches a point of crisis.
Jack.org provides youth with spaces for connection and support.
Young people are also a transformative force for good.
Many of those who struggle with their mental health go on to advocate for better systems, support their friends, and champion a future where young people don’t struggle alone. Our network of thousands of young people is a testament to the fact that young people are not just experiencing challenges, they are part of the solution.
Alongside youth, we are shifting the narrative and culture around mental health by focusing on critical areas that change and save lives:
- Equipping young people with the skills and training they need to educate and support one another with their mental health.
- Improving the mental health literacy of young people so they can thrive today and into the future.
- Preventing self-harm and suicide as a result of emotional distress by showing young people how, where, and when to seek help.
What can you
do to help?
“Youth mental health in Canada has been in decline for over a decade. More young people than ever before are living with depression, anxiety, and a sense of helplessness. ”
We're working towards a Canada where all young people understand how to take care of their own mental health and look out for each other. A Canada without shame, where all those who need support get the help they deserve. Our movement is powered by tens of thousands of advocates and allies across every province and territory of Canada.
And We're Just Getting Started.
