Donating publicly traded stocks and securities is a smart way to invest in youth mental health
Charitable gifts do not need to be cash based. An increasingly popular alternative is gifting publicly traded securities such as stocks, bonds or mutual funds.
When you give stocks and shares directly to Jack.org you pay no capital gains tax on any increase in their value like you would if you sold them and gifted the proceeds.
This means you can maximize your donation to make a greater impact and maximize your charitable tax credit to pay less income tax.
Donate securities in 3 simple steps
Talk to your financial advisor
Discuss your plans with your family and financial advisor and decide what works best for you.
Complete a transfer form
Contact us at donate@jack.org to request a transfer form. Fill it out and have your broker transfer the securities to Jack.org
Send us the transfer form
Email donate@jack.org a signed and completed copy of your form. Once we receive the securities, we'll send you a tax receipt.
The value of your tax receipt will be the market closing price of the securities on the day Jack.org legally receives the securities in our brokerage account. You can apply this tax credit to a maximum of 75% of your other taxable income. Donations above the annual limit may be carried forward to use in any of the five years that follow.
