Mental health advocacy has been, and continues to be very important to Jess and her mental health journey. She was fortunate enough to see the amazing work being done by her university's Jack.org chapter, and the profound impact that the chapter had on our community. Jack.org's mission is something she is beyond proud to be a part of. All young people deserve for their voices to be heard, and to be empowered to support the mental health of their peers and themselves. Jess is an Executive Coordinator with Jack.org. In this position she mainly supports the VP of Programs with various tasks. She also supports the Executive Leadership team alongside other Executive Coordinators. Jess’s job is majorly to take some tasks off of Shane's plate so that he has more time to focus on the bigger tasks! She also assists in any scheduling, logistics, and coordination that may need support! In her lifetime, she hopes to see the end of stigma surrounding mental health discussions. This is a huge barrier to young people seeking help when they are struggling. Everyone has mental health, and it should be prioritized along with physical health. Thanks to organizations like Jack.org, these conversations are becoming more widespread and easier to have. There are still major challenges faced by individuals in various cultures, where stigma is prominent on the topic of mental health. She hopes to see a future where every individual form all backgrounds can openly discuss their mental health. Light a candle, turn on Frank Sinatra, and cook something (usually pasta) (even better if she is doing this with a loved one!) is how Jess practices self-care.
