In May of 2020, Jessica received a message from her boss at her local community youth centre with information about the Jack.org Chapters program, which eventually lead her to start the Jack@SPLASH Community-based chapter and she hasn't looked back since then. Jessica is now the Jack.org representative for her province, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Jessica wants to work towards policy changes within the current mental healthcare system. She hopes to help to decrease the waiting times for counselling appointments and wants to increase access to mental health services in the rural areas. Jessica wants to remove barriers caused by the social determinants of health, which keep people from accessible mental health services.
Jessica's cat, Tony, is a 6-year old cat that was rescued from a local shelter. Jessica enjoys spending time watching with Tony.
