Which Talk is Right for Me?

Are you requesting a Talk and trying to figure out which one is right for you? Here are some suggestions!


Livestream Talk:

What is it? The Livestream Talk is a live 60-minute presentation hosted on your video conferencing platform and delivered by two trained youth speakers.

Recommended for: Audiences (suggested audience size <30) that are gathering in-person, online, or a hybrid of both. As the organizer, you will not be required to facilitate any parts of the Jack Talk, as this is taken care of completely by the speakers. A reminder that the Livestream version of our Jack Talk typically takes place on your own video conferencing platform.

What do you get? When you book this Jack Talk, you are provided with:

  • a dedicated Jack.org staff member who will walk you through the planning process and our program offerings
  • two trained youth Jack Talk speakers to deliver your Talk; Note: Our speakers log on 30 mins before the Talk to do a short tech run-through
  • audience engagement through quizzes, worksheets and discussions
  • region-specific mental health resources
  • post-Talk discussion questions to keep the mental health conversation going

In-person Talk:

What is it? In-person Talks involve two trained youth speakers visiting your community to deliver a live 60-minute mental health presentation. *We are currently offering a limited number of in-person Talks for 2022/23, and therefore cannot guarantee every request.

Recommended for: Large audiences (suggested audience size 30>) that are gathering in-person. If your audience will be hybrid, it is up to you as the organizer to manage these logistics. 

What do you get? When you book this Jack Talk, you are provided with:

  • a dedicated Jack.org staff member who will walk you through the planning process and our program offerings
  • two (typically) local trained youth Jack Talk speakers to deliver your Talk at your venue; Note: Our speakers arrive at your venue 30 mins before the Talk to do a short setup and tech run-through.
  • audience engagement through quizzes, worksheets and discussions
  • region-specific mental health resources
  • post-Talk discussion questions to keep the mental health conversation going

Pre-Recorded Talk:

What is it? The Pre-Recorded Talk is a series of videos combined with a discussion guide and activities for the organizer to facilitate. The videos involve two trained speakers sharing personal stories and delivering mental health content. We provide access to our online learning system, as well as support and materials to help organizers guide young people through the learning experience.
 

Recommended audiences: For smaller audiences (suggested audience size <30), in a classroom setting. The Talk contains printable worksheets and small group quizzes. The organizer is provided with a guide and is expected to facilitate the Talk by playing the videos and running the activities.

What do you get? When you book this Jack Talk, you are provided with:

  • a dedicated Jack.org staff member who will walk you through the planning process and our program offerings
  • a digital learning environment
  • a professionally-recorded Jack Talk delivered by two of our trained youth speakers
  • an organizer facilitation guide
  • discussion guides
  • prompts
  • engaging quizzes and activities

Personal Talk:
 

What is it? The Personal Talk is a professionally-recorded, 45-minute long Jack Talk with videos and quizzes. This Talk is best suited for individuals.
Users watch and complete the Talk on their own time and at their own pace.

Recommended audiences: Recommended for any individual (such as youth, parents, teachers) who wants to engage in mental health education on their own time!

What do you get? When you book this Jack Talk, you are provided with:

  • access to the professionally-recorded Jack Talk
  • quizzes

What content is covered in the Talk?

All of our Talks cover the following content:

1) Mental health knowledge (Mental health spectrum, mental illness spectrum, signs of struggle and signs of crisis)

2) Social determinants of mental health

3) How to be there for yourself (the importance of self-care and self-awareness)

4) How to be there for others (5 Golden Rules on supporting others)

5) Community supports and how to find local resources
Note: The Livestream and In-person Talks also cover types of mental health care options along a spectrum depending on what your needs are

6) How to get involved in youth mental health advocacy (Jack.org's Chapters, Summits, and Be There programs)

7) The Speakers will also share personal mental health stories (that have been vetted for safety/appropriateness).
